2006 T-bar-T Viognier
Iron Horse produces a small amount of Viognier. The grapes are grown on the T-bar-T Vineyard in the Northeast foothills of the Alexander Valley. Much of the fruit is combined with Sauvignon Blanc from the same estate to make a maverick blend called Cuvee R. A few exceptional lots are held out for special bottling. The 2004 is especially bright, fresh, floral and exquisitely aromatic. It is like pure perfume.
Food Pairing
Goes beautifully with figs and procuitto, steamed clams, lobster boil with sweet corn, fresh bean salad with Dijon mustard and savory herbs, spicy Thai noodles, skate wing in brown butter and capers, chicken curry, grilled rabbit, Thanksgiving turkey and all the stuffing. For an extravagant pairing, try the Viognier with foie gras and a peach or apricot chutney. And for desert, exotic fruit sorbets or sliced white peaches and Viognier sabayon.
